The Communication Department at SUNY Buffalo State strives to foster student learning on a continuing basis. Student learning outcomes are assessed annually based on competencies specified by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC): law, history, diversity, ethics, research, writing, editing, technology, visual communication, statistics, critical thinking, and public speaking. The following documents demonstrate how the 12 competencies are instructed and assessed, and how a student progresses toward graduation.
The curriculum map evidences how the 12 professional values and competencies are implemented in required/elective courses, from awareness to understanding to application.
The assessment plan provides detailed information on how the 12 competencies are evaluated.
Finally, the academic roadmaps demonstrate how a student progresses toward graduation in Communication Studies, Journalism, Media Production, and Public Communication.
